The Champions League quarter finals will have to wait. Sevilla fell into the trap that Leicester set up for them at the King Power Stadium and were beaten more than anything in the first half by the brutal intensity that the home side imposed in the game, leveling the tie before the break. After conceding the first goal, Sevilla took control and deserved more luck, but at the restart Leicester pounced on one of the few chances they had to come away with a win straight from the textbook that made them Premier League champions last season. Sevilla had clear-cut chances, even missing a penalty (the second in the tie), but didn’t pack the punch needed to knock out a side that got out alive, as in the first leg, thanks to a number of huge interventions from their goalkeeper, Schmeichel. In a boxing match, Sevilla would be the side to come away with a points victory. But what really makes the difference in football is efficiency in front of goal, which the Spaniards lacked, and which Leicester had in abundance. Missing two penalties leaves you with an uphill task to qualify for the quarter finals of a competition like the Champions League.
