LENGLET: “WE'RE COMPETITIVE AND WE ALWAYS LIKE TO WIN”

The Sevilla centre-back noted that "since I arrived the quality of the group surprised me"

Clement Lenglet was last night's guest on SFCTV. The French centre-back emphasised the spirit that characterises this team, over and above the tough week that the side has had: "It's been difficult since the Leicester game, because we're competitive and we always like to win. We've got a positive mindset now, we want to play to win and beat Sporting in the next match".

"We want to play to win every game"

Asked about the possible reasons behind the team's recent poor run of results, Lenglet commented that "we're fine, I don't know if it's the physical or mental side of things, but we're a great team and when we played against Leicester and Atleti, we played to win. It was difficult to beat them because they're strong teams".

The French centre-back was clear that despite recent form, the team is committed and has indisputable quality: "Since I arrived the quality of my teammates and the intensity of every training session has surprised me a lot. The players who are on the pitch with me when I play are at an incredible level, as are the coaching staff. I'm lucky, everything is very important for me and for everyone, to work in the best conditions".

"I'm at a very big club"

The player from Beauvais feels privileged to be part of this club at the age of only 21: "Two weeks before the end of the January market, Monchi spoke to my representative and we spoke with Nancy to see if coming here was a possibility...Life here is very good for me, I'm at a very big club and I'm very happy to be here".

But Lenglet's arrival had been in the pipeline for some time: "When I was 17 I knew Sevilla were interested in me. It was incredible for me, because they were a big club and the fact that they were interested in me at such a young age was really pleasing".

As well as Sevilla FC, Juventus were also following Lenglet, and he was very close to ending up at the Italian club: "I was in Turin for two days, I saw the facilities at Juventus, it was incredible, but I wasn't ready and I decided to wait. I was 19, with 10 games under my belt in the second division I still couldn't reach that level".

On a personal note, the centre-back was given a number of surprises during his interview. Among them, his first profesional coach at Nancy, Pablo Correa. The player showed how grateful he was: "It's like a father-son relationship. He's a man who want's the best from me and my being here is largely thanks to him".
