Jorge Sampaoli believes that Malaga’s ability to take their chances was the difference in Monday night’s 4-2 defeat at La Rosaleda.

Franco Vázquez’s double for Sevilla was not enough to earn a win, with Malaga scoring two late goals to take the three points.

“Malaga were very clinical with the chances that they had, they had four big chances and scored four times,” Sampaoli said. “These things happen in football, tried to do the same but were less clinical.

“The dressing room is hurting. To be superior at a ground as difficult as this and to not leave with a win because of the clinical nature of the opposition is very difficult to explain. We’re very upset with the result but satisfied for having given everything in looking for the win.”

The Sevilla manager believes that there was evidence of Sevilla’s strength as a group, despite defeat.

“What we’ve seen in the game today doesn’t mean that the team is not focused or distracted by unconnected matters,” he said. “The team dominated and fought and we will keep doing that in the difficult games that are left. We’re alive and the way forward is commitment to the shirt.”

Joaquín Correa stood out with his performance, and the manager underlined his happiness with the Argentine’s development.

“Correa’s growth in the team is great and it also helps the team’s ability in attack,” he added.
