Sergio Escudero played his 100th league game this Sunday in Getafe. Destiny dictated it should be precisely in the stadium where he made his league debut and where he established himself in the elite of Spanish football. He debuted in La Liga at 23 years old, after playing for Real Murcia in the Second Division and then leaving for Germany in 2011 to play two-and-a-half seasons with Schalke 04.
Escudero debuted in the First Division in January of 2013, when he moved to Getafe in the winter transfer market. There he made himself undroppable until his exit in June 2015. He played 58 matches for Getafe, and has now played 42 for Sevilla FC, despite only playing 15 in his first season (owing to an injury, he was only able to make his debut in November). In the following months his debut, he was able to claim the place of Tremoulinas and in the 16/17 season he was a permanent fixture for Jorge Sampaoli, who was always sure to select the defender whenever he was available.
After his 100 games in the top-flight, Escudero - who this year became a club captain and has cemented himself as one of the strongest players in the squad - has scored six goals. Just about to turn 28, Escudero is reaching a sporting peak, a progression which has carried him to be picked for the Spain squad, though he has yet to debut. Contributing even more outstanding performances for Sevilla FC - he has already scored two crucial goals in the Champions League Play Off fixture against Istanbul Basaksehir - as well as being picked for the Spain World Cup squad will serve as two exciting goals for the left-back in the 17/18 season.
