A LEAGUE CAMPAIGN OF GAMES UNDER THE BELT, A FINAL IN THE BAG AND ALIVE AND KICKING ON ALL FRONTS

February is not even over yet and Sevilla FC can officially say they've played the equivalent of an entire league campaign. With our first competitive fixture falling on the 16th of August in Istanbul against Basaksehir in Champions League qualification, we have since played 22 La Liga matches, 8 Champions League and 8 Copa del Rey matches. We've won 20, lost 10 and drawn 8 - which in a league format would give us 68 points for the year.  

As of today, Sevilla FC has played the most matches this season in Spain alongside Real Madrid, though FC Barcelona will play their 38^th  game tonight in the other Copa del Rey semi-final against Valencia. 

We have played four matches more than Atlético Madrid, nine more than Valencia CF and six more than Villarreal - our direct rivals in the race for European spots in the league. It's also worth noting Sevilla FC have played 14 matches more than six other Primera División sides who do not compete in Europe and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in the round of 32.

Beyond the handicap of having played more minutes than others, which in many ways is a positive burden to bear, Vincenzo Montella's side have set themselves up well at the start of 2018 - securing passage to the Final of the Copa del Rey and still having a platform to build on in a demanding league campaign. 

What's certain is that the Nervionenses are still alive on all fronts, something only FC Barcelona can still say too. In the league, though there is much room for improvement, we remain four points behind Villarreal, six behind Real Madrid and seven behind Valencia in the push for Champions League football; in the Champions League itself, we have the chance to reach another quarter-final should we walk out victors against Manchester United; in the Copa del Rey, we are just one good match away from being Champions. 

Sevilla and Barcelona are the only two teams who can claim to be fighting for all their objectives

What's more, with three months of football still left to play, Sevilla FC can say that - despite unfortunate slip ups - it still has the chance to achieve every one of its goals and bring joy to Sevillistas around the world. Should Vincenzo Montella give the side continuity and confidence over the coming months, Sevilla will certainly be in with a shout. Barring disaster against Eibar, continuity and confidence is exactly what he has given the side since his huge victory against Atlético Madrid in the Wanda Metropolitano.

We now have the challenge of juggling European fixtures, league fixtures and one cup final. Time will tell if we're up to the task.
