DAVID SORIA: “SATURDAY'S MATCH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT OF THE SEASON”

The goalkeeper, A Balón Parado's star guest this week, spoke about the team's impressive form at the Allianz Arena: "We all came away feeling proud of what we had done against a team that had demanded a lot from us. We lacked a goal that would potentially have given us both the mental and physical push that we needed in order to have a chance in the last few minutes".

Just twenty-four hours after Sevilla FC came up against Bayern at the Allianz Arena, David Soria starred as the special guest on A Balón Parado, speaking about the game in a more relaxed environment. The Madrid born goalkeeper, after having a great match himself. praised the work of his teammates that saw them come away "feeling proud of what we had done against a team that demanded a lot from us. We lacked a goal that would potentially have given us both the mental and physical push that we needed in order to have a chance in the last few minutes".

“We fought up until the end”

Soria shed light on what his team achieved in Munich: "A team that knew what they wanted, a side that went out and gave it everything. Unfortunately, we didn't qualify, but we fought up until the end".

The team is now looking to focus all their efforts on no other than their next match at the Sánchez-Pizjuán: "The game against Villarreal is the most important of the season so far because we are playing for a place in the Europa and that's where we need to be. If we don't qualify it's going to be tough to take, but we can't let that happen".

The goalkeeper was further asked about the turn of events that had seen him in the starting eleven this week: "It came as a shock, I didn't expect such an opportunity so soon. Experienced people around me, such as my agents and others, told me that I had always been ready and that's what I have shown. The day before the match I was asked if I was ready, I slept well that night and I said that of course, I was ready".

The player was also asked about recent months in which he hadn't played as much of a role in the team as he'd have liked: "It's hard because one minute you are playing regularly and you feel important in the team, and the next minute the new coach thinks differently and you're the second choice. I have been mentally strong, I made sure that I was always ready for when my moment arrived".

“I have faith in the team for the Cup final”

Pressed on the team's performance in La Liga, compared to what we have seen from the team in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, he responded: "we don't have a logical explanation, we always go out to win. We are exhausted, both physically and mentally, it is not down to a lack of drive but an accumulation of mistakes that we can't explain".
