SIX OUT OF SIX IN THE LAST-SIXTEEN OF THE WORLD CUP

Sevilla FC remains the Spanish team with the fourth most representatives at Russia 2018. With the last-16 teams of the competition now determined, incredibly, all six Sevillistas who were picked for their respective national teams all qualified for the knockout rounds. With Luis Muriel's Colombia triumphing this Thursday afternoon against Senegal, it was officially confirmed that no Sevillista would have to go through the heartbreak of saying goodbye to the competition at the Group stage. FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, consequently, remain the only Spanish teams with more players at the World Cup than Sevilla.

The Six Sevillistas join a long list of Nervionenses who also had the honour of reaching the Round of 16 of the greatest footballing competition in the World. Ironically though, it will be impossible for all Sevillistas to make the quarter-finals, with Steven Nzonzi's France facing Gabriel Mercado and Éver Banega's Argentina this Saturday. Miguel Layún and Mexico will face strong contenders Brazil, Denmark and Simon Kjaer will face the test of Croatia and Muriel's Colombia will face either England or Belgium - depending on the result between the two sides later today.
