JOSÉ CASTRO: “WE WILL PLAY THE SUPER CUP FINAL OUT OF OBLIGATION”

Sevilla FC Chairman, José Castro, spoke to SFC Radio this afternoon after a brief meeting with Luis Rubiales, Chairman of the RFEF. It was a brief encounter that also involved Club executive José María Cruz and saw the two repeat their disagreement with the decision to make the Spanish Super Cup fixture a one-legged match this year. 

Castro confirmed that relations with the RFEF are: "not magnificent. There was a battle over questions surrounding the Super Cup and, at the moment, relations aren't idyllic because we don't think they've taken us into consideration on this subject. We have to accept the final because they've made the decision but we can't have the best relations".

He continued: "We spoke today in Seville to convey that we don't agree at all with the decision of the RFEF, that we continue wanting to play on the 5th and 12th and that we feel hard done by because they haven't taken us into account. They've not thought of us, nor, above all else, our fans, who had it included in their season-ticket package to see the match in the Sánchez-Pizjuán and now can't. We can't be irresponsible enough to put the Club in further harm but we still insist that we don't agree at all with the final and it being played in Tangier. We will play the match because we've won the right and because we have the chance of winning another title but not because we agree. We play on one date and when it's confirmed it will be because the Federation obliges us to it". 

"We have a free date because we cancelled a friendly. It's been something exceptional, it's a thing that doesn't usually happen and next year it will go back to being a two-legged match again".

On the fans and their journey to Tangier, a location still to be confirmed by the RFEF, José Castro affirmed "I can't tell the fans what they have to do. They're free to do whatever they feel appropriate. I repeat, they're exceptional circumstances and our Club has the obligation of playing the match. It's not a question of payment, it's obligation. We comply with it but we don't agree at all. We'll study the matter because it was included in the season-ticket and because we don't want the fans to be wronged".
