Daniel Carriço was interviewed after victory in the first fixture of Group J in the Europa League. The Portuguese spoke first about the importance of the victory this Thursday evening in Nervión. 'It was a match that we needed to gain some confidence in front of our fans. We had a bad streak but we all have to stay together and that's the way forward. On Sunday we have to do the same in Levante.'
Continuing on, the Portuguese centre-back commented on what the victory against Standard Liège means, also keeping in mind that there are new players who have to adapt: 'It means a lot. We needed this win, there are many new faces who don't know what is demanded when we play at the Sánchez-Pizjuán. We have to play with personality and this is the way to do it.'
Furthermore, Carriço pointed out the great atmosphere in Nervión for the first group stage match: 'We know that when our fans are with us we play with a twelfth man and that makes it hard for teams to beat us.'
Finally, he spoke of his responsibility to wear the armband and about the next match against Levante UD on Sunday: 'I have been captain for many years, with pride but it is a very big responsibility. We are going to try to beat Levante because we need to.'
