A sad day for Sevilla FC, who have just lost one of the greats in their history. Antonio Valero Yubero, the Club's fifth entry to the Hall of Fame, has passed away. Born in Madrid in 1932, Valero arrived at the Nervionenses in 1954 from Córdoba CF. And he did not take long to demonstrate his ability, which over time has made him into one of the best left-back's in the Club's history. Efficient, quick, strong and disciplined, and, above all, a constant feature - Valero ended up playing no les than 231 games up until 1964, when an injury forced him to retire at 32 years of age.

In fact, he managed to win a cap with Spain, in a match in which Di Stefano and Luis Suárez also made their debut with the national team. Furthermore, Valero managed to play in the European Cup in Sevilla's colours. However, his retirement did not bring about the end of his relationship with the Club. He moved to the bench as Juan Arza's number two, and when Arza left he coached the youth sides and managed to coach Sevilla Atlético as well.

After retiring he moved to the bench, where he started out as Juan Arza's number two

In the eighties he tried his luck in other clubs and moved away from the profession, but never from his Sevilla FC. In fact, he was one of the main influences in setting up the Veteran Association, which he presided over for many years. In November 2012, he was recognised as the fifth addition to Sevilla's Hall of Fame, a worthy inclusion amongst Sevilla's best.

Despite the illness that had kept him at home over the past years, his club never forgot about him and the president himself visited him on various occasions to see how he was doing and to bring him some gifts. In the same way, he was recognised in his visit to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in April, when he went to the league match against Villareal. The prayer will take place on Thursday at 16:45 in Tanatorio SE30.

Sevilla FC wish to send their condolensces to Antonio Valero's family, he was one of those people who did what they could to make their club even bigger, on and off the pitch.
