Franco Vázquez was the guest this Wednesday on SFC Radio's Sólo el Sevilla, where he gave an extensive interview in which he focused not only on the present but also on the path he had taken to get here. He began by talking about the recent defeat at the Camp Nou: 'Despite the fact that we didn't get the result we wanted, I think that we played a good match. Those first few minutes were a shame, because if we had started differently, we would have gotten something out of the game. It's still early stages and maybe this will help us to keep our feet on the ground because we were flying high because of how we had been playing and this will give us new impetus.'
Delving deeper into the game, he affirmed that 'we created more chances against Barcelona than against Levante for example, but because of one thing or another we weren't able to get ourselves back in the game. When you're losing 2-0 at the start, you see that you need to attack and maybe you lose that sense of fear. I've seen the save from André Silva's header a thousand times and I don't understand how it didn't go in. I thought I would score easily with the goalkeeper on the floor, but he made himself big and blocked it.' In terms of the team's play, he claimed that 'the strikers' work helps us to make sure there are no spaces between Banega and myself or Sarabia. We´re not the tallest team but when the ball is in the middle the centre-backs are aggressive. We feel comfortable and we hope to continue on this path.'
'What happened at the Camp Nou could help us to keep our feet on the ground'
In terms of his individual performances, Franco commented that 'I like to be closer to the opposition box and the boss knows that, but I'm also comfortable where I'm playing now and I have his confidence, which is the most important thing. We used a different system against Rayo and I was further forward, but wherever he plays me I will give my best.' He also set the bar very high for himself: 'I hope that people are yet to see the best Franco Vázquez. You have to be ambitious and think that you can keep improving. It's my third season here and I've had good and bad moments. In the past, I've lacked the rhythm that I have now and that's the most difficult thing. Maybe that's what's making the biggest difference.'
