JOSÉ CASTRO: 'I AM DEVASTATED BECAUSE A GREAT PRESIDENT AND FRIEND HAS LEFT US'

'In a moment when all hope seemed lost, with financial difficulties, Roberto took charge and laid the foundations of what we are enjoying today,' stated an emotional president

José Castro appeared on SFC Radio this Friday to speak about the sad news of Roberto Alés' passing away: 'I am devastated, destroyed and incredibly emotional about what has happened today. This morning a great Sevillista's heart stopped beating, a great president and person too who has left us the legacy of his work, his honour and how he was in his life with his family and Sevilla. In a moment when all hope seemed lost, with financial difficulties, Roberto took charge and laid the foundations of what we are enjoying today.'

The president thanked Alés for all of his support, as well as being a great president he was a great person: 'It's a sad day for his family, for those of us who love him and for all Sevillistas. It's hard to assess just what he did, taking us out of the second division and giving the manager's job to Caparrós. We went up and we never went down again.'

Furthermore, he wished to say that all Sevillistas can say farewell to Don Roberto in the Sánchez-Pizjuán: 'A president and friend has left us, a great Sevillista who's legacy in life is still being enjoyed today. We could not be more hurt today but he will have what he deserves, a wake here because everyone will want to say goodbye to this great man and a funeral home could not accommodate so many people. The club has put together a huge effort to have Roberto here, in his home, Sevilla's home, for those who wish to say their final farewells.'
