Roque Mesa made the most of a cross from Amadou to put Sevilla in the lead in the first-half
The Hispalenses would make the most of their third chance. A good pass from Gonalons found Franco Vázquez on the right who in turn found Amadou breaking into the box. Amadou lifted a cross into Roque Mesa who placed a wonderful volley past Nübel in nets in the 35th minute. It was a brilliant combination from Caparrós' men who could have gone into the break 2-0 up after Amadou sent a shot wide after an excellent group move.
Schalke 04 started the second-half off strongly and threated Javi Díaz' box, the Spaniard coming on for Lucho García. After a cross into the six-yard box, the goalkeeper pulled out a superb save to deny Bruma from close range. The minutes went by and both teams managed to cancel each other out.
Munir sealed the game from the penalty spot to give Sevilla their eighth Antonio Puerta Trophy
In the 70th minute, Munir latched onto a ball in Schalke's box and was fouled, the referee pointing to the penalty spot. Munir himself took charge of dispatching the penalty and making it 2-0 on the night. Chances were few and far between after that and the match ended in a 2-0 win for the Nervionenses. Sevilla FC take home their eighth Antonio Puerta Trophy in what may be the most special edition of the trophy to date, against the team against whom it all started.
