Sergio Escudero described the season as 'bittersweet' after beating Athletic Bilbao at the Sánchez-Pizjuán: 'It's been bittersweet. We were in the Champions League spots for a long time and at the end we've missed out with our recent results,' he stated.
ESCUDERO: 'IT'S BEEN A BITTERSWEET SEASON'
Escudero went on to say: 'We did what we had to do to get into the Champions League but the other results didn't go our way. We're happy because we've qualified directly for the Europa League; we didn't want to have to do what we did this season with the qualifying rounds. The season was really long with tough moments and we have to learn from that and correct our mistakes. In some moments of the season, we felt the fatigue from starting back in July. But we got sixth place and that was the goal today.'
On a personal level, Escudero said 'it has been a pretty tough season because I've had a few big injuries and that stops you from getting into your stride. But you always have to be positive. Every time I've gone out to play, I've given my all. Now it's time to rest up and prepare well for next season.'
