AGREEMENT WITH MARSEILLE FOR THE TRANSFER OF LUCAS OCAMPOS

The Argentine winger arrives in Spain after spells in France and Italy

Sevilla FC and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement for the transfer of Lucas Ocampos to the Nervionenses. Ocampos will become Sevilla FC's 6th signing for the 19/20 season, having passed a medical and signed a contract for the next five seasons.

Ocampos was born in Quilmes, Argentina, on the 11th of July 1994. A left-footed forward, he has played the majority of his 280 official appearances on the left-wing, playing both as a winger and an inside forward, though his versatility has allowed him to play on the right-hand side as well. He has less frequently been deployed as an attacking central-midfielder and striker.

Lucas Ocampos began his career at River Plate in the 11/12 season, when the legendary Argentine team found themselves in the Primera B Nacional, corresponding to the Argentine Second Division. There, he played two dozen games, which prompted a move to Europe and the signing of his first major contract with AS Monaco, then in the French Ligue 2. Playing more than 30 league and cup matches, Ocampos scored five goals and provided three assists to move up to Ligue 1. 

In the 13/14 season, and through half of the 14/15 campaign, Ocampos would play an important role in the Monaco side, scoring ten goals and providing five assists in 65 appearances. In the latter season, following a second-place finish in the league, Ocampos would play six games in the Champions League - making his first step onto the grandest European stage. 

Ocampos' best form has come on his return to Marseille, after loan spells at Genoa and AC Milan

In the winter transfer market of that year, Ocampos would be transferred to Olympique de Marseille, where he would play 14 matches before the end of the campaign. The following year, the winger would play 25 matches - 17 in the league, one in the cup, one in France's secondary cup and six in the UEFA Europa League (scoring four goals with one assist in the process). 

In the 16/17 season, Ocampos would continue his development in Italy - first in a loan move to Genoa, where he played 17 matches (scoring three goals), then in another loan move to AC Milan, where he made 12 official appearances.

The Argentine winger contributed 16 goals and 4 assists in the 17/18 season 

Ocampos showed his best form on his return to Marseille, where in the 17/18 season he played more than fifty games. In a season that saw Marseille reach the UEFA Europa League final, Ocampos provided an impressive 16 goals and four assists. His progress would not stop there, as in the following season he provided a solid total of five goals with eight assists. 

He now joins the Nervionenses to continue his development under the instruction of Julen Lopetegui.
