Joan Jordán, Sevilla's centre-midfielder, went to the studios at SFC Radio after the last training session of the week, where he made the most of his time to get to know the facilities where SFCTV is. The Catalan, being open and honest, showed once again his happiness at being at Sevilla and answered many questions on the current Sevilla side. Jordán started off by admitting that "I knew I was coming to a big club. It was a big step in my career, and I was very clear on that. The club has surprised me because everyone is so close, everyone is very welcoming and it's surprising that such a big club can be like this".
JORDÁN: "I'VE NEVER FELT BETTER, I HAVE MATURED AND I FEEL MORE COMPLETE"
"As a person, I'm living through my best stage of my life. My daughter was born recently and I am very happy. We moved to a city that has everything you'd need. I've matured as a footballer, I'm more consistent and more of a complete player. I am at the ideal age because I have room for improvement and that's exactly what I'm going to try to do".
"My family wanted to come to Sevilla, and so did I. I know my father was going to be happy whenever I told him that I was coming here"
"With Eibar it was quite similar to Sevilla, but at the same time very different. The demands and the objectives here are a lot bigger. I knew where I wanted to go and nobody needed to tell me. There is a willingness to fight for everything, do as well as possible, and go as far in every competition as possible. My first conversations with Monchi gave me a good image of what the club was about. If we do something great this year, I will reveal what it was he told me".
"I don't like to make a lot of fuss nor tell lies, I don't like rumours. I know that there was interest from Sevilla even when Monchi wasn't here. When he arrived, everything became clear and when they called me, I knew exactly that I wanted to come here. I was very close to joining a team in the Premier League and I would have earned quite a bit more money; but my family, my wife and my parents wanted to come here. For my father it was a proud moment when I told him that I would be going to Sevilla, he knows how big and how great this club is".
"There's a lot of competition, but the season is very long and everyone is going to get their chance"
The team's objectives
"The only thing we set as a goal was that people would be proud of us, of how their team competes and the image they give off. We have a lot of room for improvement in our play and also on the defensive side of the game. We wanted to adapt as quickly as possible and the challenge was to adapt in time to compete at the highest level from the start of the season, and start off the season well. We are going to improve and a great Sevilla team will be seen this year".
Speaking about his personal situation, the centre-midfielder was very sure: "I know that there's a lot of competition. If, in any moment, I had had doubts about myself, I wouldn't have come. I'm sure that I want to play. The season is very long and everyone is going to get their chance; but right now I'm happy because I'm playing. I'm a lot more consistent than last year but at the same time, I know that anyone can play in my position".
Lopetegui and becoming more efficient in front of goal
"He has surprised me in a good way. I had an image of his team, such as looking after the ball, playing good football and being a good team... I was surprised a wee bit by the competitive nature, the work without the ball and the fact he takes everything into considerations. He's a coach who is close with his team and I'm happy that people are changing their opinions and I beleive that that is going to continue to change".
"I'm confident that we are going to have a team that scores a lot of goals"
As for the goals scored by Sevilla in these first three games, the centre-midfielder stated that: "I don't think we have problems in front of goal. If we were to score goals, then they would tell us that we are missing chances and that we need to do better. There are always going to be things to improve on at this big club, and I'm convinced that Luuk is going to score, the same as Dabbur and Chicharito. The wingers as well will score. I'm confident that we are going to have a team that scores a lot of goals; we are creating a lot of opportunities and it's only a matter of time before we start to take our chances".
In a few days Sevilla will begin a new campaignin the UEFA Europa League, something that will be new to Jordán: "For me it will be my first time in the competition and it's synonymous that it's with Sevilla. I am extremely excited to be able to play in the Europa League. I remember pretty much all the ones that Sevilla have won. In the one against Espanyol, they fought like animals which is something that we are going to have to do also."
"We will not be able to play the same way on every pitch, therefore it's vital to know how to adapt and compete no matter the situation"
Asked whether or not Sevilla's style of play will differ depending on if they are at home, or away, Jordán said: "Identity is something that should never be lost, but all pitches are different, and every game has its own aspects, in the same way that each opponent is going to demand different things from you. We will not be able to play the same way in Ipurúa compared to the Camp Nou, that's why we need to know how to adapt ourselves and compete in every game. We are adapting well to everything. The opponents can play as well and take the ball off you, making you defend against them: just like Celta did for a while. It's very important to know how to play and especially away from home when we don't have our home support".
Finishing off, Jordán openly recalled how stepping foot on to the Sánhez-Pizjuán impacted him: "I never get nervous, but the stadium makes a big impression on you. The support is incredible. You just want the game to start as soon as you get on the pitch. Listening to and enjoying our own fans singing the 'Himno de Sevilla' is something unique".
