2,500 GAMES IN THE FIRST DIVISION

Another away day is on the cards for the team with the best away record in La Liga. However, it won't be a normal game as Sevilla will notch up their 2,500th game played in the top division. They will become only the seventh team to achieve such a feat in Spanish football, behind: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, who all won on that prestigious day; whilst Atlético de Madrid, Valencia CF and RCD Espanyol all drew.

Curiously, in the overall table of Spanish football throughout history, Sevilla FC find themselves in sixth place, but only in seventh as the team who have played most La Liga games, as even with playing nine fewer seasons in the top flight compared to Espanyol, they have accumulated more points. Sevilla have spent 77 seasons in the top flight, compared to that of 39 of Sunday's opponents, CA Osasuna - an opponent who always have a very good home record. Without going any further, their defeat against Athletic Club two weeks ago broke a long unbeaten streak at home, at El Sadar, of 31 games. It was a streak that began at the end of the 2017/18 season in the top flight, continued all the way through the 2018/19 season in the second division, and then on into this current season.

Of Osasuna's 39 seasons in the top flight, 37 of them have coincided with Sevilla's presence there as well. In Navarra, Sevilla have played 36 matches with a record of 9 wins, 10 draws and 17 wins for the home side. That being said, it is the last two visits will give hope to Lopetegui's men. In 2016/17 Sevilla won 4-3, whilst in 2013/14 we also came away victorious with a 2-1 win. As far as the more recent of the two is concerned, it is curious to note that only two of the players called up for that match are still apart of the current squad. These are: Franco Vazquez, who also scored that day, and Sergio Escudero.

Now, three years on after that win which gave Sevilla FC their best first-half of a league season ever, with 42 points, they are looking to find their sixth win on the road this season already, overtaking the five that they achieved when Sampaoli was in the dugout. It's a challenge that is anything but easy, just like it wasn't in neither Cornellá-El Prat, Los Cármenes, Mendizorroza, the Villamarín nor Zorrilla, However, this Sevilla team has shown that it is afraid of no-one, no matter how difficult the task in hand.
