VAR cancelled out Chicharito's goal and a penalty were the Mexican thought he had been fouled
With the match being intense right from the get-go, a clash of heads between Diego Carlos and Cardona meant that the game had to be stopped for five minutes, after the Osasuna striker fell to the ground unconscious. The quickness in response from the players on the field should be noted, as they saw the severity of the situation straight away and medical personnel were quick to attend to the injured player, who was replaced by Adrián. And it would be Adrián who would prove vital in their equaliser as his back heel sent Chimy Ávila through on goal, and his shot was too powerful for Vaclík in the Sevilla goal. Before the half-hour mark in the game, Chicharito had the ball in the back of the net but VAR ruled it out for offside.
The second half began with the same intensity as that of the first. Once again it was Banega who was pulling the strings, as he sent Chicharito through on goal, but his shot could only find the goalkeeper. In practically the next play, a half-clearance from Ávila was mis-judged by Koundé, and David García took advantage of this by latching on to the ball, but his shot could only find the outside of the post.
Dabbur, who came on in the second half, nearly won it for Sevilla but his shot could only hit the post
Osasuna then had a man sent off after Oier was shown a second yellow. Sevilla looked the dominant side after having an extra man, and started to put the pressure on the home side, with the game being played in their half. Óliver, before making way for Dabbur, forced a good save out of the home goalkeeper. Another chance fell to Mudo Vázquez as after a corner, his shot looked destined to give Sevilla the lead, but it was well blocked.
Even though Sevilla spent a large majority of the second half on top, they weren't able to find the elusive winner. However, they thought they did. After the fourth official had shown the time added on, Dabbur played a lovely one-two with Chicharito, but his following shot hit the post after it looked destined to go in. After which, the game finished with Sevilla extending their unbeaten run, but maybe returning to Andalusia with a hint of 'what might have been'.
