Sevilla FC can not stop breaking records. Yesterday's draw in San Sebastián means that the team have gone 16 matches unbeaten in all competitions in the same season, another new record for the club. Espanyol, Cluj, Getafe, Cluj, Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Betis, Levante, Barcelona, Villarreal, Valladolid, Leganés, Eibar, Athletic, Mallorca and Real Sociedad. Zero defeats.

The record of 15 had been set by Unai Emery's Sevilla in 2014/15, followed closely by Sampaoli's 2016/17 side. In the 20th century, the record was 13 matches back in 1972/73although that run was in the Second Division. In top-flight campaigns, the 20th century record was 11 unbeaten, both in 1934/35 and 1977/78.

The last 16-match unbeaten run saw a UEFA Cup win and a UEFA Super Cup win

By joining consecutive seasons together, this is only the second time Sevilla FC have gone 16 matches unbeaten. They managed it in 2006, going 11 unbeaten at the end of the 2005/06 season before adding another five at the start of the following season. This was an unforgettable spell, as the Nervionenses won their first UEFA Cup and also the UEFA Super Cup. The team went very close to equalling that record in 2008, avoiding defeat in the final 5 matches of 2007/08 and the first 10 matches of 2008/09.

If Sevilla FC avoid defeat against Valencia CF on Sunday, it will be 17 consecutive matches unbeatena first for the club, and a run that could well be extended if the side progress in the UEFA Europa League in August in Germany.
