JOAN JORDAN, AN EXAMPLE OF EXCELLENCE IN HIS FIRST SEASON AS A SEVILLISTA

One of the footballers who has landed on his feet since his arrival at the club last year is Joan Jordán. The midfielder represents humility and determination, something that made him grow at Eibar to be able to adapt to the same philosophy in his first season at the club. He would go on to become an important part of the team over the 2019/20 season. 

At his unveiling over a year ago, 422 days to be exact, Jordán made it clear that he knew the aspirations of the club and arrived with real hunger, something that was confirmed by the end of the season just a few days ago. Three competitions, a brilliant LaLiga season saw qualification for the Champions League confirmed with a 4th placed finish, and lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy for the sixth time. That has helped the young footballer meet his expectations, even in the middle of a pandemic. 

His partnership with Fernando and Banega, a solid midfield option for Julen Lopetegui

The midfielder played a total of 47 matches this season for the Nervionenses, playing in 3,242 minutes across all competitions. He featured on 34 occasions in LaLiga, and also scored twice. He scored the winner away at Granada CF in Matchday 2, before scoring a free kick at Mendizorroza against Deportivo Alavés to secure all three points. 

In the other competitions, he featured three times in the Copa del Rey and ten times in the UEFA Europa League, including the final which secured Number 6. But, if there is anything worth highlighting, it is the regularity with which Joan Jordán plays, with Julen Lopetegui placing full confidence in the Catalan midfielder. The Basque manager, who used many combinations for his three midfielders, found that the Fernando-Jordán-Banega triangle to be key to sustaining the muscle of the side. That combination played in all four UEFA Europa League matches to finish the season, playing a crucial role.

Now that he has completed his first season after signing a four-year deal, Jordan has seen one of his dreams of progressing as a footballer come true. Now, Sevilla FC and Julen Lopetegui will continue fulfilling the expectations of a footballer who will play in another final in a few weeks time, before being able to hear the Champions League music at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
