Monchi offered his verdict to the media just after the Champions League draw which paired Sevilla with Borussia Dortmund: 'I think it's a team we all know well enough, I don't need to reveal anything. I really like the individual quality present in their squad. They have one of the best sporting directors in the business in Michael Zorc and their scouting and work in the market is sensational. They are the only team to have competed with Bayern in Germany these last years, that speaks volumes of their level. We will be able to compete with them, but it will not be an easy match.'
MONCHI: 'WE CAN COMPETE WITH DORTMUND, BUT IT WON'T BE EASY'
Our sporting director made sure to emphasise the quality of Dortmund despite the team avoiding the, in theory, strongest teams in the draw: 'I'm happy just to be in the draw, that's the main thing. I'd be just as happy if we had have drew another team. I can see what people are thinking and I remind you this is Borussia Dortmund we've been drawn against. They have just won their group. We can't forget the quality they have.'
Monchi also spoke about what it means to play the second leg away from home: 'I always prefer to play the second leg in front of our fans. We don't know what the situation will be like in March regarding fans so we will have to wait and see. We knew this was the reality of finishing second and with the pandemic it's impossible to know what will happen. A lot can happen in these months. There's a transfer window to come, they've just hired a new manager. The good thing though is that we will have time to analyse the new coach and his system. These are going to be two long months and it's impossible to know what will happen and what position we will find ourselves in.'
