The plaudits are no longer focusing on just the attack or defence. Sevilla FC are becoming a complete team, capable of controlling both boxes and overcoming any scenario in any game. That said, since Julen Lopetegui's arrival the defence has been worthy of special mention, a defining feature of the team. With yesterday's 1-0 win against SD Huesca, the team secured their seventh clean sheet in a row in all competitions, a number that puts them just one game away from the Club's all-time record set in 2008/09 under Manolo Jiménez. It has now been 708 minutes since Bono last conceded a goal, 73 away from equalling that record twelve seasons ago. Only Atlético can boast of a better defensive record in La Liga, and with 16 goals conceded in 22 games, Sevilla have set a record for this stage of the season.
With another clean sheet secured yesterday, Sevilla have not conceded a goal in over 50% of their matches this season. They have kept their opponent out in 18 of their 35 matches, a percentage of 51.4%. Focusing only on La Liga, the team have conceded in only 12 of the 22 matches, an impressive statistic of 45.45%. And, in the 17 matches in which Sevilla did concede a goal, on only seven occasions did they let in more than one. In other words, in 25 of the 35 official games this season, the team has conceded either none or one. Only in 28.6%, just over a quarter, have they conceded two or more.
These stats would not be possible without Yassine Bono. Since his arrival in Nervión, the Moroccan 'keeper has 29 clean sheets in 47 games. The percentage speaks for itself, an outstanding rate of 61.7%. Another important name is undoubtably that of Julen Lopetegui. Since his arrival at the Club, Sevilla have 44 clean sheets in 89 matches, half a percentage off 50%. In Julen's time at the Club, the team has conceded 71 goals - 0.8 per game. Looking at just the league, Lopetegui's Sevilla have given away 50 goals in 60 games, a rate of 0.83 per game.
