PAPU GÓMEZ SCORES TO PUT ARGENTINA IN THE COPA AMÉRICA QUARTER-FINALS

Papu Gómez made the most of his chance to get minutes with the Argentinean national team last night at the Nacional Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia. He had a strong start to the game against Paraguay in Argentina's third match in the Copa América, and in the tenth minute he would open the scoring. After receiving a pass from Di María in the box, Papu clipped the ball perfectly over Antony Silva who could do nothing to prevent the goal.

Scaloni's team did not squander the lead, replicating their last match against Uruguay, and held out to sit on seven points from nine atop of Group A. Gómez came off for De Paul after 72 minutes, while Marcos Acuña was on the bench. While there is one group stage game left to play on the morning on 30 June against Bolivia in Cuiabá, the Argentineans are already mathematically secured to play in the following round, the quarter-finals, as Bolivia, sitting on zero points, cannot reach them.
