Week after week Julen Lopetegui continues breaking records as Sevilla coach. Last night in Heliópolis he achieved win number 73 in 124 games that he has managed as coach. But also, his record against the eternal rival is beginning to be more than impressive, having faced them five times now as Sevilla FC coach. With enough experience to now look into and confirm that his run against Betis is unparalleled by many coaches in the club's history.

In fact, going unbeaten in the first five league derbies is something that only three select coaches have managed, together with none other than Joaquín Caparrós and Unai Emery. Caparrós leads the way in the sense reaching seven derbies without defeat from his debut against Betis in 2001 up until his first and only defeat against the green and whites in 2005. In this run of seven games, Caparrós managed two wins and five draws until falling to defeat in Heliópolis in his eighth derby 1-0. It was his last game against Betis as Sevilla coach during his first spell, then managing a draw as the away side in 2017/18 and a win in Nervión in 2018/19.

Unai Emery also reached his fifth derby without losing. In fact, the Basque managed five league games as Sevilla coach. Between Abril 2013 and April 2016 he managed three wins and two draws against the side from Heliópolis. Now it is Julen Lopetegui who equals these achievements in his third season as coach of the red and whites, increasing the stakes when it comes to wins with four in total - two in Nervión and two in Villamarín - together with the draw in 2020/21 away against Betis.
