Sevilla FC head in 2022 with a significant points advantage over the third-placed team in the leagueThanks to a series of impressive results in December, the team now have a points tally that reflects their strong showing in this half of the season. However, based on the results at the tail end of last season, you could say that the performances date back to the start of the calendar year. This is evidenced by the fact that Sevilla are second in the LaLiga Santander calendar-year league table for 2021.

In the last 24 matches of the 2020/21 seasonthe team picked up 51 points, with 16 wins, three draws and five draws since the 1-1 draw in the derby at Heliópolis. This season, up until last week's draw against FC Barcelona, Sevilla took 38 points from those 18 matches, with eleven wins, five draws and only two defeats. This gives a grand total of 89 points from 42 matchesa points-per-game average of 2.12

Only Real Madrid and Sevilla conceded less than a goal a game

Real Madrid lead the way in the table, ending the year with 97 points from 41 matches. They ended up playing less matches due to the fact that some matches at the start of last season's campaign were postponed due to European commitments the season before, so Sevilla did not face Atlético de Madrid and Elche until 2021. FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid round off the top fourwith records of 82 points from 41 matches and 80 points from 42 respectively. Betis follow with 75 points, and Real Sociedad picked up 62. Villarreal are currently seventh with 57 points, but Valencia can overtake them if they defeat Espanyol on New Year's Eve.

In terms of goals, Real Madrid are again on top, both for goals scored (80) and goals conceded (29). As for goals conceded, they are the only side to better Sevilla's numberswho conceded just 36 goals in 42 matches0.86 per match. No other team conceded less than a goal a game during the calendar year. Lopetegui's side scored the fifth-most goals during the year, with a total of 65giving the team a goals-per-game average of 1.55
