Erik Lamela was presented with the Puskas award at the FIFA 'The best' award ceremony that took place remotely on Monday from Zurich, Switzerland. The Argentine won the prize pipping the Czech, Patrick Schick and the Iranian, Mehdi Taremi, to the award, who were also in contention. Lamela was in the running for the Puskas due to his rabona goal against Arsenal on the 14th of March, where at the time he still represented Tottenham Hotspur.
Former footballer, Yaya Touré, announced the winner. Lamela, who appeared via video call, spoke about the goal: "At the time I wasn't thinking about how special it was. I just hit it and ran off to celebrate with my teammates. I don't usually practice rabonas in training. It just came to me in the moment, looking to make the best contact with the ball."
