Last night, four Sevilla FC players were in the starting eleven of the same national team in an official match. This may well be the first time it has ever happened. And this did not just happen in any old national team - they lined up for the reigning South American champions, Argentina, who have already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Albiceleste ran out 1-0 winners against Colombia, with Sevillista Marcos Acuña playing a role in the only goal, as he set up Lautaro Martínez to slot home.
Montiel and Acuña made up an all-Sevilla full-back pairing for Argentina, and both players took part in the full ninety minutes. However, there were two more Sevillistas in action. Lucas Ocampos made his first appearance since June, and Papu Gómez also started. They were withdrawn after 60 and 80 minutes repsectively.
The four Sevillistas will return to Seville in the coming hours, with only Tecatito Corona still on international duty. At 04:00 Spanish time tomorrow, Mexico face Panama in the last match of this international break.
