In what was a happy day for all the Sevilla faithful, Julen Lopetegui refrained from his usual custom of returning to the dressing first, stayed to receive a standing ovation from the fans and to accompany his players in the celebrations whilst praising the fans for their ever-present support at the Gol Norte stand after the final whistle. It was an unprecedented and important day for the coach from the Basque country, who for the first time experienced a derby in the Sánchez-Pizjuán with fans present. Many aspects of the win made it that bit sweeter, not just the vital three points earned against our arch-rivals.

After 102 league outings, the boss has now surpassed 200 points in LaLiga whilst at Sevilla. A figure that in fact Lopetegui has managed to exceed and sit him at the 201 point mark thanks to his 58 victories, 27 draws and just 17 defeats in almost three seasons at the club. On the same day in which he became the joint sixth Sevilla manager in history, alongside Luis Cid Carriega, to have took charge of the most games in the first division, Lopetegui also sees himself climb into the all-time top 5 in terms of wins in the ongoing championship. Lopetegui also equals Campanal I with 58 victories. Now the man at the helm is only behind Manolo Cardo with 61, Unai Emery with 63, Helenio Herrera with 64 and Joaquín Caparrós with 68

Back to looking at the league and the derbies, Lopetegui is the second coach of either team to have managed in his sixth derby without tasting defeat. It should be remembered that the man from Asteasu has registered five wins and a draw in the league against our rivals since taking charge. The only other coach to have replicated this feat is Joaquín Caparrós, who managed to register two wins and five draws in his first seven games against the green and white outfit.
