Sevilla ended the 2016/17 season on a high with a 5-0 win against Osasuna at the Rámon Sánchez-Pizjuán, to secure a second-highest points total in the club’s history.
Vitolo and Franco Vázquez both netted twice and Stevan Jovetic scored from 30 yards as Sevilla registered their biggest margin of victory in the league this campaign.
Jorge Sampaoli saw his side race out of the blocks with chances falling to Joaquín Correa and Stevan Jovetic, before Vitolo made the early pressure count with an assured strike on the rebound from Correa’s saved shot after ten minutes.
Former Sevilla goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu kept goal for Osasuna, but could do nothing about Sevilla’s second goal when Sergio Escudero reached the byline before picking out Vázquez whose side footed strike nestled into the bottom corner.
Osasuna, who had already had their relegation to the second division confirmed, struggled to cope with Sevilla’s imagination going forward, with Correa, Vázquez and Jovetic a constant threat for Petar Vasiljevic’s back four.
And it was Jovetic who netted Sevilla’s third, this time twisting and turning before unleashing a venomous strike from the edge of the box beat Sirigu for his seventh goal since signing on loan in January.
The 27-year-old smelt blood and chased a fourth, again testing Sirigu just before half time with a volley that flashed just wide.
The visitors recorded a rare attempt on goal just after the break when Kenan Kodro fired at goal, but David Soria – who made his league debut for Sevilla – saved comfortably.
