Our Argentine trio will be not be heading home from the FIFA World Cup just yet, as Argentina reached the semi finals by coming out on top in a penalty shoot-out against the Netherlands.
The South Americans led 2-0 thanks to a Nahuel Molina strike in the first half and a second-half Messi penalty, won by Acuña, but a Wout Weghorst brace, including an 101st minute equaliser, forced extra time.
With no goals in extra time, a penalty shoot-out was needed. Argentina won 4-3 after the Netherlands missed their first two spot-kicks. Montiel converted Argentina's third.
As for our trio, Marcos Acuña started the clash and won the penalty which was converted by Messi. He was then replaced by Tagliafico in the 78th minute.
Gonzalo Montiel came on for the second half of extra time before scoring his spot-kick in the shoot-out. Papu Gómez was an unused substitute.
Argentina will now face Croatia in the semi finals on Tuesday. However, both Acuña and Montiel are suspended after picking up bookings in today's tie, meaning only Papu Gómez will be able to feature.
