For any Sevilla fan, or for anyone who follows LaLiga Santander, regardless of which team they support, it's undeniable that Bono is a vital part of this Sevilla team. However, sometimes you need statistics to truly reflect that importance. The Moroccan goalkeeper, who played such a key role in helping the team to UEFA Europa League success in 2020, has had a spectacular year, and is one of the most in-form keepers in world football.
And this is indeed backed up by an extraordinary statistic. In 2021, Yassine Bounou has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in Europe's top five leagues. Matches for both club and country are included. In total, Bono finished 2021 with clean sheets in 54.24% of his matches, 32 in 59. No one was able to even equal that figure, but those who came closest are Manchester City's Ederson Moraes, with 30 in 59, and Chelsea's Édouard Mendy, who kept 29 in 57.
There was only one other LaLiga keeper in the top 10, and that is Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois, who, like Mendy, also kept 29 clean sheets, but in 67 matches. Manuel Neuer, of Germany and Bayern Munich is fifth, with 26 clean sheets in 63 matches. The top 10 is rounded off by Alisson Becker (Brazil and Liverpool, 25), Samir Handanovic (Slovenia and Inter, 24), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy and PSG, formerly of Milan, 24), Hugo Lloris, (France and Tottenham, 24) and Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark and Leicester, 24).
