CAPARRÓS: 'IN MY JOB I'M TRYING TO CREATE A TEAM WHICH BRINGS JOY TO SEVILLISTAS

'I'm not sure just how I can thank Sevilla for everything they have given me,' he commented

Joaquín Caparrós, Sevilla FC's Director of Football, was the first guest of 2019 on A Balón Parado. Caparrós started by assessing the draw against Atlético Madrid: 'At the end of the day, we have a point. We played an incredible game with a superb first half and we were in charge. We didn't have the luck that you need to have to get the extra goal. We were playing against a team who don't forgive any mistakes and we conceded the set-piece. The team kept going, we feel good and our fans left satisfied.'

'I'm not sure just how I can thank Sevilla for everything they have given me. In this job I try to fail the least I possibly can, to create a team which brings joy to Sevillistas, but I'm well aware that it's complicated and you can't always get it right. But when we get it wrong, we still know that the decision was taken with the best intentions for Sevilla,' commented Caparrós regarding his current post at Sevilla FC.

'The worst thing in this job are agents and negotiations'

Caparrós also talked about the most thankless task of his job: 'Negotiations are the worst, the world of agents. You go for a footballer and you find yourself with a bunch of barriers in front of you. Not only at the highest level, it also happens with youth players which is what might hurt me the most and I have to get used to that. But negotiating is an art and you can learn it and within the club we have people with this ability and the necessary experience.'

The Director of Football went on to discuss this summer's signings, where he singled out André Silva and Vaclík: 'We have a squad full of quality and we know that we had to improve in goal and up front. I think we made the right decision both in terms of the players and people they are. They're quality players, in André Silva's case we have a top young player and in Tomas' a player with a lot of experience who can pass that on to the team.'

'We want to bring in footballers who can help us maintain our current level in La Liga'

Moving onto the January transfer window, where the rumours are incessant, he stated 'this squad has got us to first in the league, to the Champions League places and we have some real challenges in front of us. There is an element of luck in football and of course other factors come into it. It's difficult to improve our squad but we want competition and to be at our best level in every competition and that's why we want to bring players in, but it's not easy in this market.'
