Throughout their illustrious European history, taken to new, barely imaginable heights in the 21st Century, Sevilla FC has come face to face with almost one hundred clubs in European competition. Most of the teams have been faced on one occasion, normally in a double-header in the knockout rounds or the group stage. In some cases, teams were only faced once, whether that be in a final, the old five-team group stage, or the knockout round format of the recent Europa League.
As a result, the percentage of teams to have returned to Nervión to face Sevilla for a second occasion is very low, but there is a select club of teams to have repaid Sevilla a visit. FK Krasnodar will become the latest club to enter this group, the thirteenth to have revisited Nervión. They will be the eighth team to do so in two different European competitions.
Every reencounter has been between the UCL and the UEL, except Rangers, who the team faced in the Cup Winners' Cup
No team had revisited Nervión until 07/08, with two teams joining the new club that season. The first team was AEK Athens, who had first visited the Sánchez-Pizjuán in the old UEFA Cup group stages in 2004, with Sevilla coming out on top 3-2. AEK returned in the Champions League in the summer of 2007, with Sevilla picking up a second home win against the Greek side, winning 2-0. Steaua Bucharest would be the second team to join the club that season. They first came up against each other in the Champions League group stages in October, with Sevilla winning 2-1. They then came head to head again in the knockout rounds in February, with Sevilla knocking the team from Bucharest out of the competition.
The third case occurred in 09/10, the only team in the group of clubs to have not shared their visits to Sevilla between the Europa League and Champions League. Glasgow Rangers first came to Nervión all the way back in 62/63 in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, with the Scottish side losing 2-0. They revisited Sevilla in the Champions League at the end of 2009 and fell 1-0. The fourth member joined the club a season later, this time with a more bitter taste for Sevillistas. Sporting Braga had lost in Nervión in the 06/07 UEFA cup group stage, but they had their revenge in 2010. The Portuguese team beat Sevilla 4-3 at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, knocking the Nervionenses out of the Champions League before the group stage.
Sevilla have recorded 12 wins, one draw and one defeat in these matches
Like Steaua, Borussia Mönchengladbach would revisit Sevilla within the same year. In February 2015, they were defeated in the Europa League round of 32, and they would return to Nervión in September, this time in the Champions League, losing 3-0. The sixth team joined the club in 2017, Maribor. The Slovenian side lost 2-1 in the second leg of the UEL round of 16 in 14/15, and fell to defeat once more in 17/18, this time in the Champions League group stage. Until now, the last team had been Slavia Prague, who first visited the Nervionenses in the Champions League group stage in 08/09, losing 4-2. They returned to Sevilla in the Europea League two seasons ago, drawing 2-2.
Krasnodar will therefore be the eighth team in this curious list of clubs, after they visited the Sánchez-Pizjuán for the first time in 18/19 in the Europa League, losing 3-0 on a decisive day in the group stages. There are five other teams to have revisited Nervión but not in different competitions. Zenit St. Petersburg, Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Standard Liège have revisited Nervión twice in the Europa League, while Juventus has also had two encounters in Seville, this time in the Champions League.
