DIEGO CARLOS: THE SECOND SEVILLA FC PLAYER TO WIN GOLD AT THE OLYMPICS
Diego Carlos spoke to ElDesmarque after the game and made it clear he will rejoin the Sevilla group with full focus: 'From tomorrow I will be focusing on my team. They are waiting for me and I'm also really excited to return to my club. It looks like we'll have a good season this year.'
Sevilla FC have had seven olympians in their history. The first two were Curro Sanjosé and Mariano Pulido in Montreal 1976. Carlos Marchena was the third in Sydney 2000, the first Sevilla player to win a medal as he finished with silver. Eight years later, in 2008, Federico Fazio won gold with Argentina against Nigeria. Lautaro Acosta, who was also in the squad, would join Sevilla after the tournament finished.
At Tokyo 2020, we had our first female player take part in the Olympics. The Chilean Javiera Toro was one of three Sevilla players at the tournament: the now former player Bryan Gil, and Diego Carlos.
