Sevilla FC have mathematically secured qualification for Europe in the coming season. In fact, European qualification is nothing extraordinary for Sevilla these days, although that in itself is an indicator of the growth of a club that began the year 2000 in the second division. With their exploits this campaign, the side from Nervión have qualified for Europe the thirteenth time in the last 14 years.
Sevilla FC have made qualifying for Europe the norm, even overtaking Atlético Madrid in the current century
Today, apart from Madrid and Barcelona, Sevilla FC are level with Valencia CF in qualifying for Europe the greatest number of times this century, both with 13.
If they finish fourth, the team will record their sixth qualification for the Champions League and would be just one away from Atlético and two away from Valencia CF
Below Sevilla, who have equalled Valencia this year, are Villarreal, who have qualified 11 times, and are close to achieving their twelfth qualification this century, and Atlético Madrid, also with 11, including the current campaign. In fifth position are Athletic Club, who have qualified eight times, but, as is the case with Villarreal, the Basque side are very close to qualifying once again if they finish the season well.
Of the 13 times that Sevilla FC have qualified for Europe, five of those have been in the Champions League and seven in the UEFA Europa League, with this season not yet decided. Valencia CF have qualified 8 times for the Champions League, Atlético Madrid seven times, Villarreal and Deportivo have both qualified four times, while five teams (Mallorca, Celta, Real Betis, Osasuna, and Málaga CF) have qualified once.
