Sevilla FC are still in Germany. They have until Sunday to prepare for the semi final against Manchester United and the reactions to last night's win over Wolves continue to pour in. Fernando Navarro, from the sporting management team, spoke about reaching the next round: "First of all I am very happy and satisfied with the involvement and performance of the team during a very complicated and atypical season on every level. They have always responded excellently and after a victory like yesterday's we are very happy. The team has had an excellent mentality throughout the year, a group of players and coaching staff who are very demanding and have prepared very well. During the lockdown they worked very well and now everything has been put together again. We' re satisfied with everyone's dedication".
NAVARRO: "OUR FOUNDATION IS RESPECTING ALL TEAMS AND WORKING TO BEAT THEM"
As predicted, our opponents did not make it easy at all: "It was a very complex match. Those of us who are more involved with the analysis of our opponents knew that it would be a game with many edges, against a team that defends very well and has had great records, with very talented players who, though perhaps not so well known, are at a very high level and are hard-working. Yesterday it was demonstrated. That's a team that you have to beat by yourselves because they'll give you nothing. It was a very complete game on every level, everyone worked well".
He also spoke about how he felt as the winner went in: "Like everyone I was very happy, I knew it was almost definitive based on how our opponents had played all game. It was a great goal. I've seen the replays and the execution was beautiful. You'll always have that uncertainty until full time, although there wasn't a lot of added time, but we demonstrated maturity, levelheadedness and you saw the play, above all, was in their half". Navarro also spoke about what the UEL is for Sevilla: "At the end, history gives you that importance and Sevilla have demonstrated that in this competition. No one wants it like we do and when you go into the dressing room you know it, it makes you give a bit more.
"Wolves are a team you have to beat by yourselves because they'll give you nothing"
Navarro is unsure if United consider themselves favourites: "I don't know what they'll be thinking. I can tell you what we think, that United are a great team with a tremendous history and excellent players. It will be complex and difficult. The foundation of the club and the group is respecting all teams and prepare well to try to beat them". He also said that there is no time to savour yesterday's win: "Football goes quickly, both for good and for bad. Yesterday you enjoy it, but once you get into bed you're thinking about United already. Football is continuous and gives you little time for happiness or sadness. Maybe we should enjoy it a bit more, but in football what you've done means nothing".
The new format has its advantages: "It's a strange season for everything and this will be the first time. We don't know what will happen in the future and maybe it'll become the norm because it allows us to be more isolated and protected. It's another show of professionalism and mentality from the team. We're away from our families but we all understand that it is necessary and it's the best option". Undoubtedly, the most important thing is missing: "Clearly, it's a spectacle and entertainment for people. Any sport or activity without someone enjoying it and being present has little meaning. But this is an unknown situation for everyone, we all want to play with fans because the feelings are multiplied by a hundred, but let's hope the pandemic is resolved soon and people can enjoy it".
"Any sport without fans present has little meaning, but let's hope everything is resolved soon"
He also spoke about enjoying this on a personal level: "Personally I'm enjoying the football very much from the other side. Being able to experience it again, in a different way but close to the atmosphere of the dressing room, the planning... These are sensations that take you back to the recent past and the truth is that I can say that happiness is not enough. I am proud and enjoying it. It is a privilege". To finish, Navarro praised Lopetegui: "He's a dedicated professional, a tireless worker. When I say Julen, I mean the entire coaching staff and everything they do prepares them in a sense. Sevilla is demanding, its coaching staff is demanding too and to achieve important things you have to be, both in life and in football".
