Sevilla FC has come to an agreement with Serbian international Nemanja Gudelj to extend his contract with the club for a further three years, keeping him at the club until the 30th of June 2026. Gudelj arrived in the summer of 2019 from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, after spending the previous season on loan at Sporting Clube de Portugal. Gudelj has four years under his belt as a Sevilla player, having played 163 matches. The Serb has won two UEFA Europa Leagues with the club, the first being in his debut season when the team triumphed in Cologne and the second coming a few days ago in Budapest. Gudelj will sign the contract extension today at 13:00 PM at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Gudelj's role in the team has become ever more important. In fact, in his debut season, the Gudelj played 38 games, in his second, 44 and 28 the following, a season in which he could not be registered in the UEFA Champions League due to the limited number of players. Having said that, it's the most recent campaign in which the Serb's contributions have made a difference, playing mainly as a make-shift centre-back due to the lack of defenders for a strong majority of the season. Gudelj ended the season having played 53 games, becoming the most-used player in the squad and excelling in an area in which he did not before specialise. The midfielder stroke defender also picked up his first goals for the club this year, three of which were scored using the power of his long-range shot -against RCD Mallorca, Real Betis and CA Osasuna- and another in the Europa League against PSV Eindhoven by intelligently joining the attack.

Besides the statistics, if there is something Nemanja Gudelj deserves praise for, it's his commitment to the team. In 2020, after recently recovering from covid-19, Gudelj made a swift recovery and joined his teammates, coming off the bench to seal the Europa League victory in the final. In these four years, Gudelj has become a leader in the changing rooms and was justly rewarded with the captain's armband in a game back in the 2021/22 campaign. Now, our Serb has three more seasons to keep on showing his versatility both on and off the pitch.
