The Tigres UANL Argentine midfielder Guido Pizarro came to Sevilla on Saturday to undergo a medical. Should his contract be confirmed with Sevilla FC, he will make the switch to European football after three successful seasons with Tigres.
At 27 years old, el Conde (the count), as he is known for his style of playing the ball from deep, arrives in Nervión to continue the progression of his career under the guidance of Eduardo Berizzo. Born in Buenos Aires and with an imposing height of 1.86 metres, Pizarro trained at youth level with Club Atlético Lanús, with whom he made his debut in 2009. Throughout his four seasons with the Granate, Pizarro played 132 times in the Argentine Primera División, the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores, scoring eight goals and seeing only 22 yellow cards and two red despite his defensive role.
Due to his undeniable growth, at the age of 23 he was sought after by Brazilian Ricardo Ferretti, signing for Mexican club Tigres. During his four campaigns there, Pizarro took part in 164 official matches. Undoubtedly he has been one of the best players in Mexico and was included in the best XI of the 2015 and 2016 editions of the Apertura. Moreover, he's already well versed in the art of winning trophies, since with the Universitarios he won the Copa MX Clausura in 2014, the Liga MX Apertura in 2015 and 2016, as well as lifting the Copa de Campeones - Supercoppa- in 2016. He was also a runner-up in the 2015 edition of the Copa Libertadores, losing in the final against River Plate.
Such prowess in Mexico lead his selection for the Argentina national team last year, and although his first call-up was given by Edgardo Bauza in September 2016, his debut didn't come until March this year in a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia. At Sevilla, Pizarro will not only be looking to continue his meteoric rise as a player, but also continue with the string of successes he has had in Mexico and make a return to the White and Sky Blue under Jorge Sampaoli.
