It's one of the breaking news stories within Sevilla FC this Tuesday, that Joaquín Caparrós has left the club to take up the role as manager of the Armenian national team. Caparrós wished to explain his decision on SFC Radio: "Well of course, Ginés Meléndez is working there and he was the Sporting Director of the RFEF for a lot of years. He was my teacher in the Castilla-La Mancha and I've known him since 1985 because he's from Albacete. He left to work and reorganise the football over there, has brought with him three Spanish coaches and offered me the chance to become manager a while ago. I've been thinking about it because it's not easy to leave home; but we decided on it and both Luci and myself are going to go there tomorrow".
JOAQUÍN CAPARRÓS, 'II BANQUILLO DE ORO' OF SEVILLA FC
Before he went on, José Castro wished to say something: "Everyone knows the affection that the Sevillistas and myself included have for Joaquín. He's a legend of our club and didn't think twice about being there for us when we most needed it on two separate occasions. He's one of the few people that can come and go from the club as he pleases, because he will always do so with love and affection for the badge. He explained his project to us, he feels young and wants to manage and we can only respect this decision. Sevilla FC would like to give him something that he deserves which is the 'Banquillo de Oro'. You have to take care of your legends and give back to them the love and affection that they've shown to you. I'm letting you know right now because no-one knew beforehand".
Castro: "You have to take care of your legends"
Visibly emotional, Caparrós only had words of gratitude: "Thank you, President. You were the one who opened the door for me to come back. You were the one who did it in the first stage with Roberto Alés, you're the one who put me in contact with him and then you were the one who allowed me to return. My family know that if you didn't open the door for me, I would not have returned to the club. You've made me very emotional with what you have said, but I also want to thank Sevilla FC because it is my life, thank the Sevillistas as well as you and your family".
To finish off, he wanted to say goodbye to his people: "I didn't see this coming. I thank the President, the board and everyone connected with Sevilla FC. I always recognise your affection on the streets and even though it hurts to leave, I will always be grateful".
