The Council of the Province of Seville has awarded the manager of Sevilla FC, Joaquín Caparrós Camino, with the Golden Medal of the Province of Seville.
With this award, the Council recognise Caparrós' incredible career as a manager. Caparrós will manage his 510th game in the First Division this Saturday and is the Sevillan and Andalusian coach with most games managed at the highest level of Spanish football and the sixth most of all Spanish coaches, only beaten by Luis Aragonés, Javier Irureta, Miguel Muñoz, Víctor Fernández and Javier Clemente.
Caparrós has managed the most games in Sevilla FC's history with 240, as well as the most games in La Liga with 166. He has also won the most matches out of all Sevilla FC managers.
A die-hard Sevillista, Joaquín Caparrós arrived at the club in the summer of 2000 under Roberto Alés' presidency with Monchi as Technical Secretary. Back then, the team was in the Second Division but, with Caparrós in charge, the team comfortably secured promotion. Caparrós would then consolidate the team for four seasons in La Liga, even managing to qualify for Europe two years in a row.
After leaving Sevilla, Caparrós enjoyed an extensive and successful career, managing clubs such as Real Club Deportivo de la Coruña, Athletic Bilbao, Real Mallorca, Levante UD and CA Osasuna amongst others.
