Pablo Machín, Sevilla FC's manager, was interviewed by the club's media after his side's painful defeat to FC Barcelona: 'If you watch the game, you can explain the final result. It was a painful defeat, we conceded six goals. But if you analyse the game and watch it objectively, it does not match up with the result. We deserved to score more than one goal. In key moments we were not clinical enough, we hit the post and we missed the penalty. They took advantage of their dubious penalty and we could not put ours away. We went into the break very frustrated. After their goal, another one would have put us back in the lead but they easily put another two past us. We did not give up and got one ourselves. We give it everything until the end and they punished us at the end with two goals which killed us.'
MACHÍN: 'WE DIDN'T TAKE OUR CHANCES AND WE PAID FOR IT'
The team seemed to have it more difficult in the second half: 'That's true, but I don't think we went out with the wrong attitude. Ultimately, they have scored four goals and we will have to analyse that. We came up against a side who were better than us.'
The result could affect the players' moral: 'We will try to make sure it doesn't, but we are all terribly disappointed. We know how difficult it would be, people thought we wouldn't be capable of going through here. The team was facing a challenge, I thought we would be able to go through but everything went against us. We were not able to get into the game at any of the opportunities when there was a chance.'
In this difficult time, Sevillistas feel hurt: 'These things can happen in a season. I don't know how they'll have seen it, you can be dramatic or you can choose not to be. We have to take the positives out from the tough times. We did not take our chances and we paid for it.'
