Sevilla FC U19 suffered a heavy defeat in the first match of their UEFA Youth League campaign, falling to a 5-1 defeat at home to Manchester City U19.

Lolo Rosano's side started well but suffered two heavy blows at key moments; an equaliser from the visitors on the stroke of half time which was swiftly followed up by a second goal just after the interval.

It was Sevilla who started the better of the two sides, with Collado going close and Carlos Álvarez heavily involved. It was the latter who whipped in the corner that led to Sevilla's goal. The ball was headed back into the area, and as City failed to clear, Hormigo prodded the ball home from close range.

That goal spurred the hosts on, and Manu Bueno went close to doubling Sevilla's lead halfway through the first half after a mistake by the Man City backline.

Borges scored a hat-trick for Manchester City

Despite all Sevilla's good work, the Citizens levelled on the stroke of half time through Borges. They completed their comeback seven minutes into the second half, when Mebude took full advantage of a loose ball. Dickson added a third with a quarter of an hour remaining.

Things would only go from bad to worse in the final 15 minutes, plus added time. Iván Salguero was dismissed a few minutes after City's third, before Borges added two late goals to complete his hat-trick.

Attentions now turn to the weekend's match against UD Almería, before the trip to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in MD2 on Wednesday at 16:00 CEST.

Sevilla FC lined up as follows: José Estepa, Veces, Hormigo, Iker Muñoz, Sergio, Darío, Collado, Rivera, Ibra, Carlos Á. and Manu Bueno. Iván Salgero, Iker Villar, Nacho, Vázquez and Iker Amuedo came off the bench in the second half.
