A month on from our last home game we couldn't make it a return to winning ways as we were beaten fairly by Real Sociedad. Midway through the first half, a spectacular solo goal from Kubo opened the scoring, and halfway through the second half, a penalty for a foul by Marcao on Zubimendi was converted by Oyarzabal. Idumbo was also forced off with injury in the first half on an all-around difficult evening in Nervión.
It was challenging from the start, up against a physical Real Sociedad side who wanted possession. In an early blow, Idumbo was forced off with a muscle injury. It was a moment of magic though that opened the scoring as Japanese winger Kubo after picking up the ball on the right flank, skipped inside a number of challenges and fired home.
García Pimienta's side ended a run of three consecutive wins at home
Real Sociedad looked for counter-attacks with two actions that were well dealt with by Pedrosa and Marcao, respectively. Just before half-time, Isaac had a great chance but was denied by a last-ditch block. After the break, Lukebakio shot over and then shortly afterwards things went from bad to worse as Zubimendi was brought down in the box by Marcao, and after a VAR review, a penalty was awarded. Oyarzabal took advantage to make it 2-0 and put the away side in a commanding position.
The changes came and Sow and Isra came on and then Iheanacho and Peque in the final minutes. On an evening where nothing seemed to come off, Iheanacho did well to intercept and back pass but off balance, he couldn't finish with the goalkeeper already beaten. Next up is a visit to newly promoted CD Leganés on Saturday at 21:00 CET in our final match befoe the international break.
