José Joaquín Matos participated this Thursday in Sólo Fútbol Club of SFC Radio. The youth team player referred to these first days of preseason and his overall sensations about Eduardo Berizzo: "It is going as we anticipated it to be, difficult like all preseasons. It's all going very well and I think that what we did last season is helping all of us to settle in with the first team. We have a lot of confidence and we're enjoying this opportunity that has presented itself."
He confirms that the first days with the new manager are being very positive: "He treats us all equally and he's very open. He gives the feeling that he's already seen us, knows us and distinguishes what each of us can bring to the team. I think we all merit to be here and if they decide to pick the full youth team, they'd all be up to scratch." Furthermore, he recognises that his teammates are helping a lot: "Anywhere you look you see there are a lot of youth team players, we don't only feel comfortable for that, also because the first team have helped us out to adapt."
Matos is currently competing for a place with Escudero, even though he doesn't hide that he's taking advantage of the experience of his teammate: "The physical exercises impede us from doing team work, but I have a very good relationship with Escudero and he helps me out a lot. Regarding my options of remaining in the first team, of course there are options, because if otherwise, I wouldn't be here right now."
To conclude, he referred to his chances of going to Japan, in the first tour of the season: "All us younger players work during a lot of years for opportunities like this to arrive. If i get the chance to go with the team, enjoy the atmosphere and maybe get a few minutes on the pitch, it will be unforgettable."
