MONTERO: “BEING A FOOTBALLER AT THIS CLUB IS THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY THING TO HAPPEN TO ME”

With a finishing flourish on the spectacular ceremony awarding Enrique Montero a spot in Sevilla FC's tenth Annual Hall of Fame, the Sevilla legend, visibly moved after an hour of praise and reminders of the different chapters of his footballing career, asked: "What do I say now?", before thanking those who had attended the ceremony as well as those who have "accompanied [him] to this day".

"For me, to be officially recognised as a Sevilla FC legend is an honour I would like to share with those who were with me in my eleven years at the club, starting with the Club's staff, like Manolito Pérez, Jaime... who helped me so much; to everyone who I had as a teammate from youth; coming through Sevilla Atlético, the team of happiness, as I used to call it; and then in the First Team. They all helped me grow as a footballer and a person", said the legend, who didn't want to forget Santos Bedoya, "a special coach for me". 

"I always wanted Sevillistas to see my loyalty and my love for these colours"

And to all Sevillistas he said: "With all of my imperfections, I've always wanted my loyalty to this Club to be appreciated and the love that I have for these colours that I defended and that I will always defend. Being a footballer in this Club, in this team, it has been the most amazing thing to happen in my life. The most intense, but also the most beautiful. And I will say it again, Chairman, it is an honour to be recognised as a Sevilla FC legend".
