Jesús Navas will celebrate 20 years in professional football next November, as 20 years will have passed since his debut at Montjuic against Espanyol in 2003. For this reason, the player from Los Palacios was the first guest of the new year on A Balón Parado, on Sevilla FC TV.
In a programme in which he received messages from Joaquín Caparrós, Javi Navarro and Frederic Kanouté, and in which his kids joined him on the set, there was also time to review the latest news, such as the recent victory against Getafe: "Things went well. I like to defend and attack, I was in a more advanced position and what I like is to push forward. I also like the full-back position a lot because you get a lot of space in front of you, I like to get forward and I enjoy it, but when it's my turn to play higher up, I've been playing there for many years and I know it well."
He also had some words for Jorge Sampaoli: "He's giving us a lot of desire and enthusiasm and we're getting the ideas right. The break has been good for us as it meant we could all get on the same page. What he wants is for us to enjoy being on the ball, to keep it as long as possible and to be superior up front. It's something that I think is good for us. In these tough moments, a coach like that, who can bring us joy, is always a good asset."
On the rest of the season, he knows that he has an important role to play personally: "We're looking forward to it. We've started the year with a couple of wins but it's still a tough situation and the more experienced players have to have that confidence and instil in the rest of the squad that everything is going to be fine."
