The Sevilla First Team squad returns to work this week and Pablo Machín wanted to make the most of the very first training sessions to work with a few academy youngsters who have won the right to train at the highest level with the UEFA Europa League now on the horizon.
Between the sticks, Machín has called up Juan Soriano, an U-21 Spain international, who this season played 26 matches for the reserves in La Liga 1|2|3. In defence, three players will be involved - with Juan Berrocal (an U-19 international), Alex Muñoz (scorer of three goals in 25 appearances in the second division) and Cristian González (a Uruguayan U-20) all making the leap.
Six of the eleven academy players chosen to complete preseason with the first team have represented Spain at youth level
In the centre of the park, two players have had international experience at youth level in Genaro Rodríguez and Fede San Emeterio - who since their arrival in the summer of 2016 have put together an incredible 77 appearances in the second division at just 21 years old. Wingers Pozo and Lara and attacking midfielder Mena (who just renewed his contract until 2021) join the ranks with U-19 experience too.
To top off the list of academy players under Pablo Machín's instruction are Carlos Fernández - an U-21 international who had a role to play in the first team at the end of last season and scored a fantastic goal against Levante - and Pejiño who scored a brace in Sevilla's tribute match with Linares for Fran Carles.
