Sevilla FC and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement in principle to bring midfielder Pape Gueye to Sevilla on loan until the end of the current season. Gueye, born in Montreuil, France, is 24 years old and 189 centimetres tall, and is a French-Senegalese defensive midfielder who has a great deal of experience behind him despite his youth, having played in the last World Cup with the Senegal national team, reaching the round of 16 before finally being eliminated by England.

Gueye began his football career at AC Le Havre, coming through their youth ranks for several seasons. He made a total of 42 appearances for the first team, making his debut in 2017 in Ligue 2, becoming an important part of the team after his official debut. In the following season, he continued to play minutes with the reserve team, playing eighteen games and scoring a goal that season. In the 18/19 season he began to have more presence in the first team as, in addition to the ten games he played with the reserve team, he played twelve Ligue 2 games, another in the League Cup and one more in the Coupe de France, making a total of twenty-four appearances. The following year, during the 19/20 season, he made twenty-six appearances in Ligue 2 and the Coupe de France.

This season he has made 19 appearances and scored one goal for Olympique de Marseille.

In the 20/21 season, Gueye moved to Olympique de Marseille, making his official debut on 30 August against Stade Brestois. From then on, he made 39 appearances, including four in the Champions League. By the end of the season, he had scored two goals for Marseille. In the 21/22 season, he continued his progression, appearing in a total of 42 matches and adding two more competitions to his tally: the Conference League (in which he scored a goal against Qarabag) and the UEFA Europa League, with half a dozen appearances. In the current campaign, he has played nineteen games between Ligue 1, Champions League and Coupe de France, even finding the net early in the league against Clermont Foot, a goal that helped his team to all three points.

As for his international career, Gueye began in the youth ranks of the French national team, U-18 and U-19, but taking advantage of his dual nationality, he joined the Senegal national team, with whom he made his debut on 14 November 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the last World Cup, he started three of the four matches played by his national team, only missing the match against hosts Qatar. Gueye also won the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, where he only missed one of the seven matches played, winning the final on penalties against Egypt.
