Cristian Toro spoke to club media after the difficult defeat for Sevilla FC Women against Villarreal CF. Firstly regarding what happened on the twenty-sixth matchday the Sevilla coach said that generally "it is clear that collectively it wasn't a good game. We failed to take the initiative, to be more accurate, and to win more battles. We lost the ball many times and at the end of the game we were a bit emotional and I think that it showed with the three set pieces. We had the chance of equalising with the penalty and today wasn't our day. I think that we have to improve and turn the page quickly. We are hurting. I am always going to be the first to take responsibility when the team isn't playing well but everyone has to be aware of the game that we played and how as a team we can turn it around now that we have a difficult game on Sunday against Alavés."
On reflection, he spoke about the key events that determined the game: "it hurts a lot because they scored three goals from set pieces. We had more chances from set pieces and then in the game we lacked a bit of fluidity and accuracy, which is what we were looking for in this game, but again I will say that today was a bad day and in general we are playing well. We want to be higher up in the league and we can be but we have to know that when we are not 100% we are not the team that we know we can be. The defeat today serves to get us up again in the morning and work stronger as a team and to want to compete on Sunday against Alavés, a difficult opponent that are level with us. An intense team and one that at their home ground are a strong opponent."
"The defeat today serves to get us up again in the morning and work stronger as a team"
In a more general assessment and thinking ahead to the next game, he insisted again that they would get back to their best. "We had that perfect week and now we got 0 points from 6. Every game is a different story, the past doesn't mean anything and if we are not 100% our mistakes are punished in this league. We have to learn and go into everything more connected." To close, he referred to the first minutes of Grace Kazadi as a Sevilla player. "She had discomfort and in the end was rushed in but she needs to get up to the speed of the team and get to know them. We will all continue improving together."
In turn, the captain Isabella Echeverri echoed the comments of her coach: "I think that we lost the game ourselves because of a lack of concentration. We have worked a lot on set pieces and in the end the punish you. We had the draw in our hands and we have to take responsibility, know that we were not good and we have to pick ourselves and improve." She also said how the have to pick themselves up from tomorrow to face the game in Vitoria. "In training we have worked on set pieces. It is time to swallow the defeat, learn from the mistakes that we made and tomorrow work so that they don't happen again. The good thing about football is that it always gives your opportunities and on Sunday we have another opportunity for Sevilla to do great things and show that we are ourselves and a winning time. Tomorrow the sun will rise again and we will smile again."
