Sevilla FC allowed for no surprises tonight and put in a sure performance in the first round of the Copa del Rey. Lucena played well but were outclassed by Sevilla's quality throughout. Sevilla managed to effectively kill the game before fifteen minutes were played with two goals from Óscar Rodríguez and De Jong. Jordán would score the third on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot. The game slowed down in the second half and Gnagnon came on for his first appearance of the season, before Zarzana entered the pitch for his first team debut.
Julen Lopetegui rotated from the team that played against Getafe, but his team arrived into the match with the intention of ending the tie as soon as possible. In Sevilla's first attack, with barely two minutes on the clock, they scored their first goal. Óliver Torres played it inside to Óscar Rodríguez who controlled well and beat Adri Soto with his left foot. It was the perfect start and it didn't take too long to get even better, with the team doubling their advantage on their quarter-hour mark.
Jordán's penalty killed the game before half-time
The second goal arrived after Idrissi made a break down the left wing and passed it into De Jong. The Dutch striker composed himself before firing it in with his left foot. While Lucena remained in the game, Bono had next to no work to do in his goal. Óscar almost got a third from a free-kick before Idrissi fired a fierce strike against the post, but it would not be long before the third arrived. Michael fouled Óscar in the box and Joan Jordán sent Adri the wrong way to score the third.
